Poor Haitians Resort to Eating Dirt
Okay, I know that this is a blog devoted to disability issues...but given the intimate connection between disability and poverty I couldn't resist posting a link to this story. Why is it that we can spend 500 billion dollars or more per year on a war that the majority of the populace does not support...but can't address simple issues like getting people food? Now, I know that famine and hunger are not issues that are immediately resolvable through monetary aid...but it would seem to me that even 1% of the annual war budget could temporarily remedy...if not go a long way to resolving issues of hunger like this example in Haiti.
